Come Join Me to do Laundry

I'm off to do laundry. Today I only have one trash bag full. Most times I have two. I carry them both and my soap if Mr. Sanderson isn't around to help me carry. He is usually working in the shop when I'm doing laundry. Watch your step, we have a long, steep trip!!

I start my trip going down the steps to our apartment. Glad to have your company today!

I cross the parking lot to the climb upward.

Now I have to climb up these steps!!! Huff, huff! Really, I'm doing so much better than the first couple of weeks we were here.

Now, after a short rest, I have to climb this incline. My thighs are growing stronger every day!!!

I'm up the hill and the laundry room is at the far end. The rest of this building top and bottom are rooms for the seminary students and NILI students. There are three such buildings on this level.

I go back to my apartment. This is the view from the laundry room door. The middle two windows are ours. The view and the sky are pretty today!

Comfortable Chairs ????

Finally I'm in the laundry room after setting all of my things down to unlock the door.

Now to go back down the hill. The building below is the Missionary administration office. Carolyn and Dwight Rich, Joh Fischer, and Dana Howard have offices there.

The view I have as I come down the steps of our building, the retaining wall, and the flowers I stop to enjoy on my trip to the apartment!
On the way back I take time to look at the flowers. The retaining wall is really pretty, too. The wholes you see in the wall are drainage pipes.
More landscaping to enjoy on my way back.

These are the flowers around the communications building which is under us. (You would think by living above them I would have good computer service--not so!)
That tall pink flower is a geranium which comes up to Glen's chin!
Back to home sweet home, but will have to take the trip to change the clothes to the dryer and to get them back home.

The covered walkway leading into the restaurant where we ate on New Year's Eve.

The wooden floor of the walkway.

There were beautiful wood carvings on the restaurant walls.

Glen was a fortunate one who got the beef tenderloin. Everyone else had a tough piece of meat they couldn't cut with a steak knife let alone chew it. I think the beef is tough here because it isn't grain fed and is very lean. Anyway, Glen is looking forward to having a good steak when he comes home!

Kara made a mountain out of her tough steak and put a broccoli tree on top.

I liked the whole fried fish because I could hold onto its mouth while getting the meat from the bones!
My fried tilapia and my soup. Some people eat the eyes. One person did in our group. He said it tasted chalky.

This is the soup I had at the fancy restaurant in Shell on New Year's Eve. Instead of using crackers, they served popcorn. Don'tknow the name of the soup but it was good. The restaurant opened especially to serve us.

We ate two times at this Chinese resturant in Pulo when we were working in shell.

A Bunch of Bananas on the Plant

Getting the Roof on the Moved Church

Children at Buena Fe

On Feb 13, Glen went with Dwight Rich, Jon Fischer, and Lucho to help a congregation move their church about 3 blocks. It was a portable church with styofoam in between metal sheets. I'm not sure if the town was Buena Fe or the church name. (good faith)

On Sunday, Feb. 15, there was a mud slide on the road between there and Quito. A car was washed down the mountain. It will take a few months to repair the road.

Taking the church to the new site

putting the church back together

Glen hired Lucho's wife to make him some short sleeved sweatshirts. The are very professionally made. He had the NILI logo embroidered on 3 of them.

Lucho caught this parakeet by throwing his shirt over him. Then Glen and Lucho built it a cage.

Glen was going to let it loose, but Lucho said,"No, mucho money!"

Pepe works mainly with the seminary. Glen has known him from past trips to Ecuador.

This is Lucho who works for Work and Witness. Glen has worked with him on 2 other trips. He and Lucho get along fine and work together very well. They have their own way of communicating but Lucho is learning English. Glen even helps him study for some of his English tests!

Cabinet Building

Glen made a cabinet for a NILI classroom.

view from our front porch

I know I get my narration going the wrong way. We traded Howard and Barbara Culbertson a lamp for this recliner. Now we have two fairly comfortable chairs!

We enough storage. It has been very cold and rainy here the last week and we have really had to snuggle under blankets to keep warm. It's around 63 when we wake up.

The bathroom is bigger than most. The shower is huge. There is lots of tile around here. It is used all over--church floors, entry ways, etc.

We have more cabinet space and cupboards that some of the other apartments. I guess that makes up for the tiny, tiny table. Two plates and glasses are about all it holds. We dish up from he counter.

It is hard to see, but there is beautiful tile around the back splash.

This is our living room at the seminary. The rust furniture is very uncomfortable. The blue strip chair is fine. See our roses that we get for $1 a dozen? It's fun having fresh flowers!

New Years Eve in Shell

Right before New Year, there were paper mache figures for sale everywhere. Anything from Simpsons to cartoon animals. The figures are burned at midnight to celebrate getting rid of the old year. We did our best to find one that looked like Pastor Jerry and this was the best we found!
I guess he is pretty emphatic about what he is preaching here.
